Roof repair in Fort Wayne
Most roof repairs in Fort Wayne cost $395 to $1,968, and about $1,200 is the national average. Call us at the first drip. We'll get on the roof, find where the water is getting in and show you photos before we fix it.

Leaking right now?
Call us at (260) 254-7714. If the repair can't happen right away, we'll tarp the roof so no more water gets in. While you wait:
- Move furniture and electronics out from under the drip, and set down a bucket and towels.
- If the ceiling is bulging with water, stand to one side and poke a small hole at the lowest point with a screwdriver so it drains into the bucket. A sagging ceiling can come down all at once.
- Take photos of the stain, and of the attic if you can reach it safely. Your insurer may ask for them.
- Do not climb onto a wet roof. Ladders and wet shingles are how people get hurt.
Where Fort Wayne roofs usually leak
The stain on your ceiling is rarely right under the hole. Water runs along the deck boards and rafters before it drips, so we start on the roof and in the attic, then work back to the stain.
| Where the water gets in | What you'll usually notice |
|---|---|
| Cracked pipe boots (the rubber collar around plumbing vents) | A stain on a bathroom or kitchen ceiling, often a round one |
| Chimney flashing | Wet wood beside the chimney in the attic, or a stain on the wall by the fireplace |
| Step flashing where a roof meets a wall | Water inside the wall below a second story or a dormer |
| Valleys, where two slopes meet | Leaks during heavy rain, then nothing for weeks |
| Shingles lifted or torn off by wind | Tabs in the yard or gutters after a storm |
| Ice dams at the eaves | Stains along outside walls in January or February, with icicles outside |
How much roof repair costs in Fort Wayne
Most roof repairs cost $395 to $1,968, with about $1,174 the national average. Swapping a few broken shingles can cost as little as $150, while rotted rafters or trusses can push a repair past $5,000.
| Repair | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| A leak found and fixed | $360 to $1,550 |
| Flashing repair | $200 to $500 |
| Asphalt shingle repair | About $975 on average |
| Flat roof repair | About $400 on average |
| Metal roof repair | About $1,700 on average |
| Slate repair | About $1,800 on average |
A steep or tall roof costs more to work on, and so does water that has already soaked into the deck. On older roofs, finding shingles in a color that matches can take some looking. We write your price once we've been up there.
Matching old shingles
Shingle colors change and get discontinued, so a repair on a 15-year-old roof may not match exactly. We bring the closest color we can find, and we'll tell you before we start if the patch will show from the street. On a back slope, most people decide a near match is fine.
Roof repair questions
How do I know if my roof is leaking?
Look for brown rings on ceilings, peeling paint near the tops of walls, damp insulation or daylight in the attic, and shingle grit piling up in the gutters. After a heavy rain, take a flashlight into the attic and look along the underside of the roof.
Is a small roof leak an emergency?
Not usually, but it gets worse quickly. Water soaks the deck and insulation long before it shows on a ceiling, so call within a few days, and call right away if water is dripping inside.
Will insurance pay for my roof repair?
Only when a covered event caused it, such as a windstorm, hail or a fallen tree. Old age, wear and slow leaks usually aren't covered. If a storm did it, read our page on storm and hail damage before you call your insurer.
Can you fix a roof leak in winter?
Yes. We replace shingles and flashing in cold weather and seal them by hand so they hold until spring. Leaks caused by ice backing up at the eaves are a different job: see ice dam removal.
How long does a roof repair last?
About as long as the roof around it, when it's done with matching materials and new flashing. A patch on a roof at the end of its life only buys time, and we'll say so when that's the case.
