Roofing in New Haven, Indiana

We fix leaks and put on new roofs in New Haven, Indiana, about 8 miles east of downtown Fort Wayne by State Road 930. New Haven is in Allen County, so the same county permit and code rules apply here as in the city.

Two storms in two summers

New Haven took hits in back-to-back summers. In the June 13, 2022 derecho, the National Weather Service logged a roof blown off about 3 miles north-northwest of town. On June 25, 2023, straight-line winds tore shingles off New Haven homes, and hail an inch and a quarter across fell 4 miles north.

A roof that lost a few tabs in a storm like that often has other shingles whose seal strips broke without anything coming off. Those creased shingles are the next ones to go, so if you patched after 2022 or 2023 and never had the whole roof looked at, it's worth a check. See storm and hail damage repair.

Roofs coming due

New Haven has about 6,900 homes, with a median build year of 1975, and more than a fifth have gone up since 2000. Architectural shingles last about 25 to 30 years, so the first roofs on those newer subdivisions are reaching replacement age now. Houses from the 1970s and earlier have usually been re-roofed at least once.

Permits in New Haven

New Haven hands building-code enforcement to the Allen County Building Department, and roofing is on the county's permit list. We pull the permit as part of the job. The city's own planning office issues Improvement Location Permits for building or enlarging a structure, so you'd only deal with it for something like an addition.
